This bulbous perennial produces clusters of 6 or more trumpet-shaped flowers on top of a thick purplish-green leafless stem in summer. Clumps of fleshy strap-shaped leaves appear in fall and winter then die-back before the flower stalks emerge. Flower color of hybrids vary from white to pale pink and dark reddish pink. Some may have white centers or darker central stripes on the each petal.
