C. sasanqua generally has smaller leaves and flowers than C. japonica and blooms earlier. C. sasanqua is rather versatile in the landscape and can be used as accent, in containers, espaliers, ground covers, or informal hedges. Low to medium shrubs, upright or mounding with single, semi-double, double, or peony-form flowers of white, pinks, reds, multicolored, or variegated. Blooms in fall to early winter. Can tolerate sun or shade.
