Large Cape Rush is a graceful upright restio with smooth round dark green stems. New growth has ornamental brown, papery, leaf sheaths that shed with maturity. Long lasting, blackish-brown flower spikes appear at stem tips. Robust culms are produced at the outer edges of the clumps resulting in a more vertical habit than C. tectorum. Clumps can eventually spread to over 4' at the base. Plants grown in part shade or with abundant water can be more lax in habit. More adaptable and more tolerant of heat, dense soils, and summer watering than C.tectorum
