A medium-sized, erect evergreen tree with a full cylindrical crown and pendulous branches. The bluish-grey leaves contrast nicely with the dark, rough, deeply furrowed persistent bark. Showy terminal pendulous flower clusters of pale pink to crimson appear in fall to late spring followed by small, woody, urn-shaped fruit. The blue-grey or dull green leaves are lance-shaped to slightly sickle-shaped with reddish midribs and petioles. E. sideroxylon can be variable in habit and flower color.
