Aristida purpurea

A warm-season fine-textured bunchgrass with narrow green to blue-green leaves and wispy, silky, nodding purplish-red flowers in summer. Year-round interest as grass matures from summer into winter when it bleaches to a light straw color. Plant in large drifts for added drama or use in a cacti or succulent garden where the sandy or rocky soil and minimal water is what this grass prefers. Native to the western two-thirds of the U.S. and Canada.
